In addition, with HDMI video upconversion, you can increase the resolution of SD (Standard Definition) video signals that DVDs use to HD (High Definition) so you’ll see more details and sharper, more true-to-life pictures.

The product on Amazon was advertised as an “all region” DVD player. It is not. There are six regions. The back of the unit I received shows that it plays region 1 DVDs only (ref. page 22 of the manual which explains how to determine which regions the product will play – there is a sticker on the back of the player.) I inserted a DVD from Poland (region 2), and the player displayed the error message “wrong region” and would not play it. That being said, it will play foreign DVDs marked “all”. I decided to keep the player because most DVDs I have and buy are either region 1 or “all”, and the quality of this player is very good. The sound and picture are excellent, and it is easy to use. If you are looking for a DVD player that will play regions 1-6 and those marked “all”, this product is not going to deliver.

This is one of those items that I wonder why I hadn’t gotten earlier. We had a fairly good collection of DVD’s that we purchased when we lived in central Europe (Slovakia). We were thinking about tossing them when we got back in the USA. Then I saw the Philips Multiregion Player 1080P. It was very easy to set up and within minutes we were watching our DVD’s that we had bought in Europe. We now use it for all our DVD’s. I also put a large number of digital photographs on a flash drive and plugged it into the player. We watched those pictures in the comfort of our living room on our TV. This is one fantastic buy that I wished I had done earlier. Great product. Great price.

It works very well and can play a wide range of formats. The presentation on the screen is much better than off my DVD Recorder. However, some of the time it is a bit sensitive on actually loading the DVD. This is especially true on DVD’s that have been burned either on a DVD-/+R or a computer. The secret is to hit the “Menu” key and have it bring up the menu for the DVD, then select the program you want to view.
